It was a privilege this summer to have had the opportunity to capture one of the most promising soca stars of this moment, Ricardo Drue, with my camera at the @antilliaansefeesten . His presence, charisma, and undeniable talent filled the stages and brought joy to many.With deep sorrow, I learned of the sudden loss of this 38-year-old artist. His passion for music, his energy on stage, and his ability to unite people through his songs will live on in our memories.Ricardo's contribution to the world of soca dance was not only evident in his music but also in the hearts of those who had the chance to witness his performances and whom he touched with his art.Today, we honor his legacy and cherish the moments of joy and celebration he bestowed upon us. What a spectacle the shows blow you away.When at the festival grounds -->There's a curse on your feet and legs... you have to stamp to the music!This festival should come with a warning label: 'NOT FOR THE FAINT-HEARTED, SURVIVAL CHANCE 10%.' I still don't understand how I survived it myself.And once I got home, some fool had stolen all my mirrors from the frames .....One thing's for sure, tonight is the grand finale, the gala of all galas for the freaks, 'The Rise Of The Circus.' 📸✨ Take a behind-the-scenes look at my latest event shoot at Euro-Serre! 😅 When you think of events, you might immediately picture rock bands and glamorous weddings, but believe me, corporate events have their own charm. 🏢💼This weekend, I was at Euro-Serre, where I had the opportunity to capture their open day. Not only were there beautiful greenhouses, but Euro-Serre also supports local merchants, giving them a chance to promote their products. 🌱🛍️It wasn't just a photographic challenge; it was also a fantastic networking opportunity. 🤝 Business cards were flying, and I learned a lot from other professionals in the field. 💼💡Euro-Serre is a genuine family business, and that warmth is palpable in their interactions. 🎶 In the times of Covid, we had to keep our distance, and concerts and events were far away. 🚫 But the creative minds in the cultural sector found a solution, giving rise to the magical live streamed concerts! 🎤🎶While it wasn't quite the same and interacting with the audience posed a challenge, it was heartwarming to witness how artists and fans came together on a virtual stage.🌟 I remember a special concert, where my best buddy shared his talents on the stage. 🎸 The hall was empty, except for the sound engineer, lighting master, stage director, band members, a cameraman, and of course, myself, capturing every moment. 📸As the live music caressed my ears, I could feel the absence of a vibrant crowd. 🎶🇨🇺 Capturing History: A Legendary Encounter 🎶🌟 At 92 years old, the iconic Omara Portuondo (@omaraportuondocuba ) graced the European stage for what could possibly be her last performance in Belgium! 🎤 This Cuban music legend has had an extraordinary career, and I had the honor of meeting her in person! 🇨🇺🎶 Omara's journey in music began in 1945 as part of the Las d'Aida Female Cuarteto. Her debut solo album, 'Magic Negra,' was released in 1959, and from there, she collaborated with luminaries like Orquesta Aragón, Chucho Valdés, and Maria Bethânia. 🎵🌎 In 1998, she became internationally acclaimed when she joined the @buenavistasocialclubofficial project. This experience led her to tour the world, spreading the magic of Cuban music far and wide! Her album 'Gracias' won a Latin Grammy award, (@recordingacademy) recognizing her exceptional talent in the Best Contemporary Tropical category. 🏆🎶 Embracing her roots, Omara has embodied the essence of Son Cubano, a genre that was once looked down upon but found its way into the hearts of the people. 🎼 With its African rhythms and folk charm, Son Cubano became the soulful sound of the island, alongside the vibrant afro-cuban rumba.🌟 Now, in 2022, her 'Vida' world tour commences, celebrating an astounding 77-year-long career! In 2018, I had the honor of capturing a grand private party filled with joy and musical magic. The celebration was in honor of a man who was marking an incredible milestone in his life: turning 50 years old, running his business for 25 years, and being happily married for 30 years. It was the perfect occasion to celebrate surrounded by loved ones and friends.The atmosphere was fantastic, and the presence of the amazing cover band Domino made the party truly unforgettable. Their musical talent and special effects got everyone moving, and their diverse repertoire ensured that no one could stay still on the dance floor. From classic tunes to modern techno hits, Domino knew exactly how to turn every gathering into a PARTY. They do several imitations during there shows with a lot of special effects here is a snap of their @daftpunk imitation.As I tried my best to make each click of my camera contribute to precious memories, I learned more about the man in question. He had been diagnosed with Pancreas cancer the day before the party, yet he displayed a fighting spirit like no other, determined to overcome the illness. It deeply touched me that despite his personal struggle, he exuded so much energy and joy.In the following period, I encountered him at other public events in the neighborhood. Every time, he would chat with me and confidently share his belief that he would be the first to survive Pancreas cancer. His determination and positivity were truly inspiring.Sadly, a little over a year later, I had to bid farewell to this remarkable friend. He lost the battle against the disease. I received a condolence card from his daughter, in which she personally thanked me for capturing the many beautiful memories I had created for their family, including one of my photos that was among their cherished moments.Let us strive to capture and cherish those precious moments and support each other during difficult times, just as this extraordinary man did.
